TH 49 The Three Brothers
The "hengst" (small, sturdy fishing boat) is one of the most remarkable boat types on the Scheldt estuary. The sturdy boat was often used as freighter, ferry or fishing boat, and also deployed during dyke and port works. As yachts "hengsten" were never very popular. That is why only eight wooden "hengsten" were preserved. The TH 49 was built on the Verras yard in Paal for a fisherman from Zeebrugge, and was given the number Z18. Via Graauw the boat moved to Tholen in 1929 under registration number TH 49. In 1957 the "hengst" was deployed as a yacht and in 1996 sold to the Stichting Behoud Hoogaars. From winter 2006 onwards the TH-49 will be sailing as an original regional fishing boat.
