Ferry "Zuidvliet"
When bridges and dams did not yet link all land in the Scheldt estuary, Zeelanders travelled by ferry from one island to the other. The "Zuidvliet" shuttled between Kortgene and Wolphaartsdijk from 1914 onwards. It was the first motorised ferry boat of the Provinciale Stoomboot Diensten. From 1926 it was deployed between Veere and Kamperland. In 1961 it was removed from service.
It is a miracle that the ferry has not been demolished since then. The "Zuidvliet" has ill been restored to its original state along the quay at the Stads & Commercie Yard in Zierikzee. The "Zuidvliet" is moored in the Oude Haven of the Museumhaven Zeeland in Zierikzee. Practical: The "Zuidvliet" will be restored until mid-2006 along the quay near the Stads & Commercie Yard at 2 Vissersdijk in Zierikzee. Free viewing from the quay.
